Pedicures for Men: What to Expect (And Why It's Worth It)

October 12, 2026•4 min read

A men's pedicure is simply a pedicure, done with the finish you want. Your nail technician soaks your feet, trims and shapes your toenails, tidies the cuticles, smooths calluses and finishes with a massage. Most men skip polish and choose a clean, buffed natural finish that just looks healthy. You walk out with feet that feel better and look well cared for, without anything that looks "done."

If you have never had one, here is exactly what happens, which service to pick, and why so many guys who try it once end up booking again.

Why More Men Are Getting Pedicures

Feet take a beating. Work boots, dress shoes, running, basketball, golf and long days standing all add up. Thick calluses, rough heels and toenails that are hard to reach or trim cleanly are common complaints.

A pedicure deals with all of that in one sitting. It is also one of the few times in a busy week when you get to sit down, put your phone away and let someone else take care of something. That is a big part of why it is worth it.

At our Norcross salon, we see plenty of men on their own, along with husbands joining their wives, dads bringing their kids, and groups getting ready for weddings. Nobody will think twice.

What Happens During a Men's Pedicure

Here is the typical flow, so nothing comes as a surprise.

  1. The soak. You sit in the chair and put your feet into a clean basin of warm water. This softens skin and nails.
  2. Nail trim and shape. Toenails are trimmed straight across and the edges smoothed. Trimming straight across with smooth corners is the standard approach for toenails.
  3. Cuticle care. The cuticles are gently pushed back and tidied so the nails look neat.
  4. Callus treatment. Rough spots on your heels and the balls of your feet are softened and smoothed. A good technician smooths calluses rather than removing them completely, since some thickness protects your feet.
  5. Massage. Lotion and a foot and lower leg massage. For many men, this ends up being the favorite part.
  6. The finish. Usually a buff for a natural shine, or a clear matte coat if you want a little protection without the glossy look.

Choosing the Right Pedicure

You do not need a special "men's" menu. Just choose the level of care that fits your feet and your schedule.

Basic Pedicure

The Basic Pedicure covers the essentials: trim, shape and cuticle care, callus treatment, a warm towel and a 4-minute foot massage. It is a great first pedicure and a good regular maintenance visit.

Deluxe Pedicure

If your feet are rough or you are on them all day, the Deluxe Pedicure adds sugar scrub exfoliation, two hot towels and an 8-minute foot massage. The extra exfoliation makes a noticeable difference on dry heels.

When you want more downtime

If massage is the main reason you came, look further up our pedicure menu. The Collagen Pedicure includes a 20-minute candle oil massage and a 5-minute back massage, which is a different level of relaxation.

Pedicures for Athletes and Active Guys

If you run, play sports or train regularly, your feet deal with friction, sweat and pressure. A regular pedicure helps keep things in good shape:

  • Properly trimmed toenails are less likely to rub against the front of your shoes during long runs or games.
  • Smoother calluses are less likely to build into thick, uncomfortable ridges.
  • A massage after a hard week simply feels good on tired feet and calves.

A few cautions are important. Blisters, black toenails, cracked heels that bleed, ingrown toenails, or any signs of athlete's foot or nail fungus should be checked by a doctor or podiatrist. A salon cannot treat medical conditions, and you should wait to book a pedicure until those are cleared. If you have diabetes or circulation concerns, check with your doctor first and tell your technician before the service begins.

Common Questions Men Have Before Their First Pedicure

"Do I have to get polish?"

Not at all. Most men choose a buff or clear matte finish. Just tell your technician at the start.

"My feet are rough. Is that embarrassing?"

No. Nail technicians work on all kinds of feet every day. Rough heels and thick calluses are exactly what a pedicure is for.

"Is it ticklish?"

Some people are ticklish at first. Let your technician know, and they will use firmer pressure, which usually helps.

"What should I do before I come in?"

Nothing complicated. Do not try to cut your own calluses or dig at your toenails beforehand. Wear shoes that are easy to slip back on, like sandals or slides, especially if you get a clear coat.

How Often Should Men Get a Pedicure?

Every four to six weeks is a good routine for most men. Toenails grow slowly, so that schedule keeps them tidy and keeps calluses from building up. Athletes and people on their feet all day may prefer a little more often. Our post on how often to get a pedicure goes deeper into timing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a men's pedicure take?

A basic pedicure is relatively quick, while services with longer massages take more time. If you are short on time, mention it when you book.

Can I get a pedicure with my partner?

Yes. Side-by-side pedicures are easy to arrange. Book both appointments at the same time so we can seat you together.

Is a buff finish the same as clear polish?

No. A buff smooths the nail surface for a natural shine with no product. Clear polish adds a coat on top. Matte clear is a good middle ground.
